Online Shopping Services

Writer: Stylish Teacher (Dawn)Stylish Teacher (Dawn)

Let's talk about online shopping services. This will focus on those sites where you buy. I will do a separate post on sites where you borrow clothes or accessories. I have been using these services for many years now.  The basic premise is that you go online, sign-up for the service and they send you stuff in the mail to try on.  You keep what you like and you send back what you don't.  It is a win-win for busy people and for those who just don't like shopping! There are many of these types of services out there.  Here are a couple that I have tried and my experiences with them. I will include links (some will be referral links with some sort of discount for you) so you can check them out for yourself. Settle in.... this will be a longer post because I want to help you make the decision of what to look into more.

Trunk Club is a Nordstrom Company which is a bonus to the ease of this service because you can use your Nordstrom card and earn Notes.  They send you items in most categories (jewelry, clothing, accessories, shoes, etc) and you try them on at home. You keep what you want and send back what you don't. The service is available for women and men. It is pretty easy- you sign up and fill out a style profile. You have also have the option to share Pinterest with them so they can get more hints about your style likes. You can send chat messages to your assigned stylist to request certain types of items or brands. There is a $25 fee that is credited at purchase or waived if you use your Nordstrom card. Once you schedule your trunk, they will send you an email with a preview of your items and you can say yes or no before the items are sent to you to and request other items they didn't include.

This service has been the most successful for me.  I already loved shopping at Nordstrom. The fact that you see the items before they send them is great for me and I have felt like my requests and feedback on the items (you give feedback on what you like or don't like) and that helps to build a rapport with the stylist. There is a limit on how long you can have the items at your house before you send back what you don't want, so it is not like buying, thinking about it and returning it to the store--it's a shorter timeline. I liked that you can either schedule a trunk whenever you want or if you are building a new wardrobe, you can have one sent on a reoccurring basis.

Stitch Fix was the first shopping services I every tried. This service has a simple formula: you sign up; fill out a profile; and schedule a "fix".  They send you 5 items (clothes, shoes and accessories),  you keep what you like and send back what you don't. There is a $20 styling fee when you schedule, but that $20 is applied to any purchase you make.  This service is available to women, men and now kids.  They also have maternity for those who need it!

This service was good for a while for me.  I found that after a while I started to get the same items but in different colors/patterns.  I believe that now they have a larger variety of brands that they offer. You are not able to select specific items.  You can give "notes" to your stylist, but ultimately they pick what think you might like.  This was great for me when I moved from the classroom to administrator and I needed more work place style of clothes.  I was able to build a base work wardrobe.  I haven't been back for a while, but is an easy service to use.

This site looked promising because they have some great contemporary designer brands. There is a $40 styling fee that is credited at purchase. At sign-up you complete a profile and schedule a box. You can preview the up to 12 items before they are sent. Once you recieve the items you have 5 days to try and send back those you don't want.

I didn't try this service because they only have sizes 0-12 and I wear 12-14 depending on the item. Apparently they believe that size 14 is plus size. So I cannot speak to the selection or customer service.
